GARMIN MARINE

Garmin Marine GPSMAP 78sc is a new, high-sensitivity weatherproof GPS and chartplotter, with two onboard sensors, internal electronic compass and barometric altimeter. The “c” letter in the model’s name means that the device comes preloaded with Garmin BlueChart coastal charts covering U.S. waters, and the “s” means that it is sensor equipped. The case is designed in grey, black and silver colors, with the measurements of 6 x 2.6 x 1.2-inches, with the included pair of AA batteries installed. It has a rubber covering over the battery case door, ensuring the device will lay flat and not slide around at all, also it has a protective leather flap hiding an external antenna jack, mini USB port, and a Garmin 4-pin serial connection. If you are a novice in this field, you can always stick to the included user manual that is very easy to read and understand. The device has eight pushbuttons with labels on each of them, and also a single 4-way rocker switch, meaning that you have a full control over all the functions. Garmin Marine GPSMAP 78sc is an easy way to save your current positions and waypoints as well as routes to them, with just a press and hold of the Mark button. After you save the location, you can modify its icon, name or add a note, or change the latitude and longitude. It has an impressive memory storage of 2000 waypoints and 200 routes, which is more than enough for a portable GPS. The display is 1.6-inches in width and 2.2-inches in height, having a 160 x 240-pixel resolution. Reviewers have claimed that the display screen of this particular model is excellent and very easy to read even in direct sunlight. There is a USB port, serial port, and antenna jack located on the back of the case, all of them covered with a protective leather flap. You have an option to permanently mount the device on your boat with the optional marine dash mount. This model is capable of transferring data wirelessly to other Garmin units capable of doing such thing. It provides you with an information about navigation markers, tides, nearby marine services and currents that can be easily accessed via Find key. It is rated waterproof to IPX7 standards, and in case you drop it in the water, or actually want to use it aboard the boat, the device will float. The IPX7 rating means that it is capable of going underwater for as much as 1 meter and staying there for 30 minutes without any kind of damage. The unit comes with a 1-year warranty, which is less likely to be used at all due to its durability to being dunked and dropped. As customers have claimed, Garmin Marine GPSMAP 78sc is definitely one of the most sophisticated marine handheld GPS units on the market today.
